Just Down the Road: Distillery Tours Across the U.S.
By ISC Barrels
Chances are that no matter where you live in the United States, you are only a short drive from a working stillhouse. Across the country, distilleries of every size have opened their doors, inviting guests into the process. Visitors can experience how raw materials are transformed into something worth savoring, all while enjoying the scent of fermented grain lingering in the air and seeing barrels resting quietly in rickhouses.
That spirit of discovery is reflected in Newsweek’s Best Distillery Tour 2026 Readers’ Choice nominees with just a sampling of the amazing distillery tours that blend craftsmanship and hospitality in a way that feels personal and memorable. These journeys connect guests to the history, the people, and the pride behind some of America’s most respected spirits brands.

In 1999, the Kentucky Distillers’ Association launched the Kentucky Bourbon Trail with a clear purpose: welcome people into the story of bourbon. What began with seven distilleries created a structured way for guests to experience the process firsthand. By the 2010s, it included many of the Commonwealth’s most recognized distilleries along with a rising number of craft producers. Today, the program features 68 distilleries and stands as an international destination, with thoughtfully designed visitor centers and curated experiences.
Its success helped inspire a broader national movement. As craft distilling gained momentum, producers across the country began developing immersive visitor programs rooted in regional traditions and innovation. Many states now offer spirits trails that encourage exploration and connection.

A distillery tour brings the process to life, from agriculture and fermentation all the way through maturation and blending, allowing you to witness the care behind each step and the story behind every bottle.
We are proud to work alongside many of the distilleries recognized by Newsweek, including Angel’s Envy, Bardstown Bourbon Company, Buffalo Trace, Hard Truth, High West, Jack Daniel’s, Journeyman, Maker’s Mark, Mount Vernon, The Sazerac House, Stranahan’s, WhistlePig, and Woodford Reserve. Each location offers something unique, whether it is a deep dive into production, a hands-on blending session, or simply an unforgettable tasting in a beautiful setting.
So make this the year you go. Plan a weekend road trip. Gather a few friends. Explore a new spirits trail in your own backyard or across the country. Distilleries are ready to welcome you in, and there is nothing quite like tasting a spirit right where it was made.
