Inside the Barrel with Stranahan's Master Blender Justin Aden
with chad spalding, ISC Account managerStranahan's 12 Year Old Mountain Angel Port Wine Cask Aged (Batch 01) represents a mature expression of the Denver distillery's American single malt program, combining twelve years of high-altitude maturation with the influence of Portuguese Port wine casks. As the oldest release in the Mountain Angel lineup, the limited edition showcases the impact of time, altitude, and cask finishing on Stranahan's signature style.
Distilled from 100% malted barley and Rocky Mountain water, the whiskey spends twelve years maturing in new American charred oak barrels in Denver before being finished in Port wine casks from Portugal. The intense Colorado aging environment contributes to an extraordinary angel’s share, concentrating flavor and providing complexity and depth. Bottled at 94.6 proof, the whiskey offers rich notes of ripe fruit, berry pastry, vanilla, with a mature oak backbone and a tart finish.
